Over 40 diplomatic and consular missions equipped with biometric data collection devices

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has equipped 43 diplomatic and consular missions with modern devices for collecting biometric data, thereby facilitating the issuance of identity documents directly abroad without the need for long trips back to the country. Acting Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statement today.

He emphasized that the diaspora remains a priority for the government and that modernizing consular services is part of the strategy to bring Moldovan citizens closer to the country.

“Our diaspora has been and remains a priority. We have worked intensively to offer our citizens abroad better access to consular services and to facilitate their integration into the communities of their host countries. Equipping diplomatic missions with biometric equipment is a concrete step in this direction, simplifying the process of obtaining identity documents and increasing the efficiency of the services offered,” Popșoi said.

In addition to this initiative, the MAE has launched the eConsulat platform, which allows for online appointment scheduling and document requests, and has appointed 10 honorary consuls in countries such as Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Philippines, to support Moldovan communities and strengthen bilateral relations.

Moreover, the MAE has continued to intervene in crisis situations, conducting evacuations of citizens from affected areas such as the Gaza Strip, together with international partners.
