VIDEO // Higher quality medical services for about 56,000 citizens from north Moldova: section of Drochia hospital inaugurated after major renovation
About 56,000 residents from north Moldova will have access to higher quality medical services after the inauguration today, following a major renovation, of the Therapy and Geriatrics Section of the Drochia District Hospital. An investment of 3.6 million lei was made for the hospital’s modernization.
The section covers an area of 600 square meters and has 50 acute therapy beds and 21 geriatric beds. The major renovation works were carried out in the Therapy and Geriatrics Section of the Drochia hospital for the first time in the last 30 years.
"It is a quite important event for the hospital, especially because, for the first time in the last 30 years, the repair in this section was carried out. The new conditions will benefit not only the patients, but also the medical staff," said Health Minister Ala Nemerenco at the event of the Section’s inauguration.
The minister emphasized that the investments made in the Drochia hospital would allow patients to benefit from higher quality medical services, without having to travel to medical institutions in Balti or Chisinau.
"All citizens, elderly people, young children born in our villages, young people coming to work or develop businesses in the villages of Moldova need medical assistance. Therefore, hospitals must be maintained, developed and endowed with equipment, so that, when necessary, citizens are not forced to travel long distances to Balti or Chisinau, where the infrastructure is more developed," Ala Nemerenco noted.
The necessary funds for carrying out the works were allocated by the government and from the Development Fund of the National Health Insurance Company.
"In this project, about half of the invested amount represents contributions of the people. We are often asked: we pay for insurance, what happens with the money? Here is a part of the money that came here and another half of the necessary amount is the government's contribution," the health minister also said.
Ala Nemerenco added that, in the last two years, over 13 million lei had been invested in modernizing the Drochia District Hospital. Thus, the institution benefited from energy efficiency works and was endowed with modern equipment.
The official said that the investments made in recent years in the country's healthcare system had created conditions for more young specialists to choose to work in medical institutions in villages and cities of the country, in locations where there was a shortage of medical workers. At the same time, the minister highlighted that employees' salaries in the system had been increased, and this effort would continue.
Present at the event, the head of the Drochia district, Vasile Cemortan, emphasized the importance of the project for residents of northern Moldova and implicitly for those in the Drochia district.
"We all want to benefit from quality medical services. The residents of the Drochia district have long been waiting to have the possibility to benefit from a section equipped with everything necessary and not have to constantly travel to Chișinău or Balti for the required medical services," said Vasile Cemortan.
According to statistics data, in the last three years, investments in the health system totaled over 4 billion lei. The resources were primarily used for the modernization of medical institutions and their equipment with modern facilities.
