Young people willing to continue studies at Moldova's universities to be able to choose six new specialties
Young people who want to continue their studies at universities will be able to choose six new bachelor's degree specialties, introduced starting with the 2026–2027 academic year. They complete the Nomenclature of fields of study and specialties in higher education, updated through a decision approved by the government today.
The new bachelor's programmes are Furniture Design, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Tourism Geography, Bioinformatics, Pharmacy Assistance and Sports Travel and Tourism.
The specialties will be developed in universities at a proposal by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), following consultations with higher education institutions and representatives of the business community.
“By introducing these specialties, we give young people the opportunity to prepare for fields with development potential and we respond to the requests coming on behalf of employers. We want graduates of universities from Moldova to have relevant skills and better employment prospects,” said Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun.
The Nomenclature of fields of study and specialties in higher education is the document that establishes which study programmes can be organized by universities of Moldova. It includes the officially recognized training fields and specialties, on the basis of which university programmes are authorized/accredited and diplomas are issued. The document is periodically revised, in order to adapt the educational offer to changes on the labor market and to European standards in higher education.
The university admission competition was launched on July 27. For the 2026–2027 academic year, the government has approved 9,013 state-funded places for public universities, meant for bachelor's, master's, residency, clinical secondary studies, and doctoral studies.
There are 16 higher education institutions operating in Moldova – 11 public and five private ones.
