Independence that Unites Us: Moldovan government approves schedule of events dedicated to 35the anniversary of Independence
Moldova will mark 35 years since the proclamation of its Independence through a national schedule bringing together cultural, educational, commemorative and festive events, to be held till December 2026. The government has approved the schedule, The Independence That Unites Us. Moldova-35, which includes more than 20 events organized in the country and abroad.
“Celebrating 35 years of independence is a unique opportunity for the whole society to unite around shared values and common goals, regardless of the language spoken or ethnicity. The Independence Day is dedicated to all Moldovans. We invite all citizens of this country, from young to old, to join the activities planned by the Culture Ministry and other state institutions,” said Culture Minister Dan Suruceanu.
Traditionally, on 27 August, festive events dedicated to Independence Day, as well as a military parade will take place on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN). The programme also includes the Great National Dictation, organized on August 31, as well as exhibitions, documentaries and youth-focused projects to be held until the end of the year.
The schedule further provides for the issuance of a commemorative coin and a string of postage stamps, the organization of the National Prize Gala, the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival, the European Heritage Days and the National Carpet Fair “Covorul Dorului” (The Carpet of Longing).
In addition, school and university students will take part in a series of activities dedicated to national history and values. On September 1, the new school year will begin with the Lesson of Independence and schools will host topic-related activities as part of the National Values Decade.
In total, the schedule includes more than 20 actions dedicated to marking this historic moment, to be carried out with the involvement of central public authorities, local public administration authorities, cultural institutions, the academic community and civil society organizations. The planned actions aim to strengthen the sense of belonging, promote cultural heritage and enhance the visibility of Moldova.
