President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today took part in the solemn ceremonies organized in Chisinau to mark the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova.

The officials laid wreaths at the monument to Stephen the Great and Holy, one of the historical symbols of the Republic of Moldova, and earlier paid tribute to the heroes who fell defending the country’s independence and territorial integrity at the Grieving Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex.

The ceremonies were followed by moments of silence and the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Moldova.

The events were attended by MPs, government members and law enforcement bodies, veterans of the Transnistria War, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova, ethnic organizations, as well as citizens and guests of the capital.

The images captured at the two ceremonies convey the solemn atmosphere of the events dedicated to 35 years of Independence.
