VIDEO // Leova water intake station operating normally

The water intake station in Leova is operating without interruption. The authorities are continuously monitoring the flow rate and technical parameters and are prepared to take additional action if necessary. The information was presented today by Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder, who visited the station.

According to the official, due to the hydrological drought, the water level in the Prut River also remains very low.

“To ensure that residents are not left without water, work was carried out last week to allow water to be collected even under these conditions. The authorities are continuously monitoring the flow rate and technical parameters and are prepared to take additional action if necessary,” said Gheorghe Hajder.

The minister emphasized that, although precipitation is forecast for the coming days, preliminary data show that it will not be sufficient to replenish the water reserves depleted during the past months of drought.

“Nevertheless, we expect a slight improvement in the situation. The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova remains in direct contact with local authorities and water and sewerage operators to ensure citizens’ access to water,” Gheorghe Hajder noted.

The water intake station supplies 11 localities, including the city of Leova. Therefore, the authorities previously installed additional pumps to enable water collection at a lower level and prevent interruptions in the water supply.

The authorities emphasize that they will continue to implement the necessary technical measures to maintain water supply for consumers amid the low level of the Prut River.
