PHOTO GALLERY // Great National Dictation in pictures: Romanian language unites us

The Great National Assembly Square turned, on Romanian Language Day, into a huge open-air classroom. More than 3,500 people came to write together in Romanian at the fourth edition of the Great National Dictation.

MOLDPRES photojournalist Andrei Mardari captured in pictures both the scale of the event and the emotions and faces of those who took part: students, teachers, parents, grandparents and people of all ages, all brought together by the same language.

The pictures also show a powerful change in perspective over time. Thirty-seven years ago, in the same Great National Assembly Square, thousands of people were fighting for the right to speak Romanian and to return to the Latin alphabet. Today people sit at tables and write freely in Romanian.
