National Robotics Team wins FIRST Global Challenge 2026 in Korea

The National Robotics Team of the Republic of Moldova won the FIRST Global Challenge 2026 alongside Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and El Salvador, as part of the alliance that triumphed in the robotics tournament. The competition was held from October 6 to 10 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, Moldova won three medals: gold for the winning alliance and two silver medals for the robot engineering design and Ember Mesh innovation project.

The FIRST Global Challenge brings together teams of students from more than 190 countries every year. Participants design, build, and program robots, then compete in international alliances to complete missions inspired by global challenges. This year's theme, “Igniting Innovation,” focused on preventing wildfires and reducing their impact.

The Republic of Moldova was represented by the ENIGMA team from the village of Boșcana, Criuleni District, selected based on the results achieved at the 2026 FIRST Tech Challenge Moldova National Championship, along with two mentors.

Moldova has participated in the FIRST Global Challenge since the competition was launched in 2017 and is among the countries with the highest number of gold medals. The national team won bronze in Mexico (2018), three gold medals in Dubai (2019), gold in Geneva (2022), gold and silver in Singapore (2023), two gold medals in Athens (2024), and gold and an honorable mention in Panama (2025). With the victory in the Republic of Korea, Moldova's medal tally has reached nine gold medals.
