The parliament of the 11the legislative period has officially ended its work following the snap parliamentary elections from July 11, 2021. The legislature was distinguished by a clear agenda of reforms, modernization of institutions and acceleration of Moldova’s European integration process.

The last plenary session was marked by the adoption of a Declaration on European Integration, a symbolic and strategic document reaffirming the authorities' commitment to the country's European path. The Declaration was voted in the absence of the parliamentary opposition, which boycotted the session, accusing the government of excluding political dialogue.

In his closing speech, Parliament President Igor Grosu emphasized the exceptional nature of this legislature.

"It was a complex period with major challenges – pandemic, energy crises, and the war in Ukraine – but also significant progress: Moldova got the status of an EU candidate country and advanced in the process of judicial and public administration reforms," Grosu said.

The 11th legislative period was made up of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), which got a majority of 63 seats out of a total of 101. The opposition included the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) with 32 seats and the Shor Party, which entered Parliament with six lawmakers. Subsequently, following Constitutional Court decisions and individual departures, the parliament’s composition  underwent changes and the Shor faction was dissolved.

During its mandate, the parliament adopted over 1,200 legislative acts, many of which aimed at judicial reforms, combating corruption, energy security, aligning legislation with European standards, supporting the business environment and modernizing the education and health.

According to the Constitution, the regular parliamentary elections are to be held, which will take place in the autumn of 2025.

The four years of legislative activity were documented pictures by MOLDPRES photojournalists Mihai Vengher and Andrei Mardari.
