Fourteen families from central Moldova to make their dwellings energy rehabilitation with European support

Fourteen families from the central Moldova are set to make the energy rehabilitation of their homes, following the signing of financing contracts through the Energy Efficiency Fund in the Residential sector in Moldova (FEERM).

According to the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED), the programme targets rural households in situations of extreme energy vulnerability and aims to reduce energy consumption and invoices’ costs. Financing is carried out through a mixed mechanism: 50 per cent of costs are covered by European funds, 45 pe cent - by the Energy Vulnerability Fund and beneficiaries pay only five per cent of the works’ value.

The works will include thermal insulation of walls and foundations, roofs’ rehabilitation, doors’ and windows’ replacement, as well as the setting of biomass-based heating systems. According to the authorities, these investments will contribute to the thermal comfort of families, reduce monthly expenses and improve the quality of life.

The FEERM programme is implemented by CNED and the Ministry of Energy, with financial support on behalf of the European Union, under the project, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova" (E4M). The E4M initiative is launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and co-financed by the European Union, Germany, Norway and Denmark.
