Moldova, Cyprus strengthen cooperation in context of EU Council Presidency, due to be held by Cyprus in 2026
President Maia Sandu today met Marilena Raouna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus, a country that will take over the Presidency of the EU Council on January 1, 2026, for a period of six months.
The discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral cooperation, in the context of Moldova's European path. The head of state appreciated the experience and support provided by Cyprus, which underwent deep transformations after joining the European Union in 2004.
Another central topic was the protection of electoral processes from external interference, so that Moldova can continue its European path, integrate into the world's largest single market and strengthen the democratic institutions.
President Maia Sandu expressed her confidence that, during the forthcoming Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council, Moldova would continue to make significant steps towards achieving EU membership status.
