Fine artists of Moldova to first ever participate in VOLTA Basel 2026 international contemporary art fair

Artists of Moldova for the first timer will take part in the international contemporary art fair VOLTA Basel 2026, one of the most important events dedicated to contemporary art in Europe, due to be held in Basel, Switzerland, on June 17-21. Their presence marks a new step in promoting Moldovan contemporary art on the international cultural scene.

At this year’s edition, artists Mihail Tarus, Tudor Zbarnea, Victor Gutu and Tatiana Fiodorova-Lefter will present their works to an international audience in the context of Basel Art Week, one of the most important platforms of meeting for artists, galleries, collectors and art professionals.

The participation of Moldovan artists in VOLTA Basel represents a significant moment for the visibility of contemporary creation of Moldova. According to the organizers, each of the four artists provides a distinct artistic approach, connected to current trends and discourses in contemporary art, contributing to the promotion of an authentic and relevant image of the country’s artistic scene.

The presence of Moldova at this event is financially supported by Culture Ministry, which thus aims to facilitate the promotion of local artists on international cultural markets and to strengthen the country’s participation in the European artistic circuit.

According to the Culture Ministry, the participation in VOLTA Basel 2026 will help enhance the visibility of Moldovan contemporary art, develop international collaborations and expand promotional opportunities for artists of Moldova.

VOLTA Basel is an international platform dedicated to emerging contemporary art, recognized for promoting galleries and artists from around the world. The event is part of the Basel Art Week programme and offers an important space for discovering new artistic trends and creators in the process of establishing themselves on the global stage. In 2025, the fair celebrated 20 years of activity, consolidating its status as a benchmark of international contemporary art.
