VIDEO // Available fuel stocks increase in Moldova; energy minister says measures adopted yield results

Available fuel stocks have been showing an upward trend in Moldova in recent days. Also, fuel imports have allowed gas stations to begin the process of replenishing their stocks. Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has made statements to this effect. He specified that the measures taken by the authorities in the context of the state of alert had started to produce results.

According to the minister, the current petrol stocks cover approximately 15 days of consumption, while diesel stocks cover 8–9 days.

“The measures adopted in the context of the energy alert state have started to yield results. In recent days, we have noticed a slight improvement in the level of available fuel stocks in the country. At present, petrol stocks cover approximately 15 days of consumption and diesel stocks 8–9 days,” said Dorin Junghietu.

At the same time, yesterday, around 400 tons of gasoline and approximately 3,500 tons of diesel were imported both through the Giurgiulesti International Port and through the Leuseni border crossing point. Minister Junghietu said that these deliveries allowed gas stations that had previously reported a lack or shortage of diesel to begin the process of rebuilding their stocks.

According to the official, the issue of supplying oil products was also discussed at a July 30 official visit to Bucharest, given that Moldova secures most of its fuel needs from Romania, from the refineries operating there.

“The Bucharest authorities have reiterated their openness and support to prioritize exports of fuel products to Moldova, just as they did in April this year,” noted the energy minister.

At the same time, Dorin Junghietu urged citizens to use electricity rationally, emphasizing that, in the context of regional developments, “every kilowatt counts.”

“Dear citizens, in the context of the high temperatures forecast for the coming days, as well as the hydrological drought on the Danube, I reiterate that every kilowatt counts. The operation of nuclear power plants in the region — in Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria — is being greatly affected by the Danube’s flow rate. There is a deficit of electricity in the region, which may lead to higher prices, especially during peak hours. Therefore, all of us, both economic agents and citizens, must show unity, understanding and rational consumption of electricity,” concluded the energy minister.

The government established a state of alert in the energy sector on July 28, for a period of 30 days, in the context of regional developments and the conflict in the Middle East, which have driven up prices for oil products.
