Moldova's National Cinematography Center to fund nine film projects with 13.3 million lei in 2025

Nine film projects – national productions and international co-productions – in 2025 will be supported by the National Cinematography Center (NFC), with an overall budget of 13.3 million lei. This measure is part of the Culture Ministry's efforts to stimulate the development of Moldova’s film industry and to attract foreign investments in the audiovisual sector.

The funding competition was conducted in two stages and aimed to support the most valuable fiction and documentary projects. Nineteen out of 27 eligible applications the second stage, where the performances of the directors and production companies were analyzed.

In the first stage, the scripts were evaluated by an international expert committee: Lina Vdovîi, Otilia Babără, Eugen Kelemen, Gabriela Suciu-Pădurețu, and Ionuț Mareș, under the observation of Marin Basarab. The selected projects were subsequently presented in a public pitch session, judged by Oana Giurgiu (Romania), Dušan Kasalica (Montenegro), and Weronika Czołnowska (Poland).

The public pitch, an international practice applied by NFC, aims to enhance the transparency of the selection process and to strengthen professionalism in the industry. In the final stage, the jury also considered the directors' previous festival participations, the awards won and the public success of their films.

The total budget allocated for the 2025 session was supplemented by 3.3 million lei from internal sources, including the Program for Attracting Foreign Investments in Film Production. NFC has also asked the Ministry of Finance to increase budget allocations to extend the support provided.

The nine projects selected for funding in 2025 include two national feature fiction productions, four international feature fiction co-productions and three international feature documentary co-productions. The full list of winning projects can be found on the official website of the National Cinematography Center.
