Spokesman for Moldova's government says all families to continue to receive compensation for electricity
All families of Moldova will continue to receive compensation for electricity for the first 110 kWh consumed. This support is provided by the government with the assistance of the European Union. The government's spokesperson, Daniel Voda, today made statements to this effect. The clarification came after the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) had ruled that, as of August 1, citizens would pay less for electricity.
‘The government will continue to compensate, with the support of the European Union, that ceiling of 110 kWh per month for each household, until the end of the current year. What does this mean in practice? First of all, it is good news for consumers. For people, if you consume up to 110 kW, it means you will already pay the reduced rate. If you exceed this ceiling, you will still pay less as the rate has been reduced,’’ Daniel Voda said.
At the same time, he emphasized that the reduction in electricity rates would have a positive impact on the activities of economic agents and will enhance the competitiveness of Moldovan products.
‘’Local products will become more competitive, as the production cost will decrease as a result of lower electricity costs,’’ the government's spokesperson noted.
ANRE on July 29 decided that, starting from August 1, citizens would pay less for electricity. Thus, final consumers in the northern part of the country, served by 'FEE-Nord' S.A., will pay 4 lei/kWh (excluding value added tax (VAT)), down by 0.68 lei less than at present.
Meanwhile, the rate for consumers in the central and southern regions of the country, served by Premier Energy state-owned enterprise, will decrease by 0.51 lei to 3.59 lei/kWh (excluding VAT).
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the price cutting had been prompted by Energocom's ability to purchase energy at lower prices and by the increased share of renewable energy in consumption.
At the beginning of 2025, the government decided that all domestic consumers of Moldova would benefit from electricity compensations, directly included in invoices. They are provided to all families until the end of the current year for the first 110 kWh consumed.
Before today's ANRE decision to lower the rate, the compensations covered the difference between the regulated price and the reference price, up to a maximum cap of 1.84 lei/kWh, applicable to the quantity of energy consumed monthly, which cannot exceed the limit of 110 kWh per consumption point.
The providing of electricity compensations to all households of Moldova is made possible within the financial support package announced by the European Union for the year 2025.
