Exhibition of Ukrainian fine artist inaugurated at Art Museum of Moldova

The Art Museum of Moldova is hosting a personal exhibition of a well-known  Ukrainian fine artist Victor Sydorenko, titled, A Time for Renewal and Manifestation of Identity. The exhibition delves into essential subjects, such as memory, identity and the individual's inner struggle in a transforming world and will be open to the public till August 3.

Victor Sydorenko is one of the most acclaimed contemporary artists from Ukraine, a participant in the Venice Biennale and the creator of internationally recognized projects and exhibitions. His works are part of prestigious collections worldwide, noted for their conceptual depth and expressive force.

"At the event, we welcomed the artist's presence in Chisinau and emphasized the importance of promoting contemporary art as a means of intercultural dialogue, reflection and the reinforcement of identity values. We also highlighted Victor Sydorenko's outstanding contribution to the international artistic landscape, appreciating the relevance of the subjects addressed in the exhibition—memory and identity," said Andrei Chistol, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture.

Victor Sydorenko is one of the most influential contemporary artists from Ukraine, with a prolific work in the field of visual arts, curatorship and art theory. Born in 1953, he is the president of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and the founder of the Institute of Contemporary Art. Sydorenko is known for his participation at the 50th edition of the Venice Biennale and for his constant presence in major cultural centers around the world, such as Paris, London, New York, Helsinki and Kyiv.

His artistic work centers on profound themes, such as memory, identity, the relationship between the individual and history, as well as the crisis of the contemporary man in a globalized and changing world. Sydorenko explores the impact of the past on the present and shapes a reflection on the individual caught between the collective forces of memory and the need for personal assertion. In the context of the current war in Ukraine, his works acquire heightened symbolic strength, speaking about the formation of a new national and personal identity, born from the confrontation with suffering, hope and resilience.

His exhibition project includes cycles, such as Millstones of Time, Forced Disorientation, Acquiring Individuality, or Turmoil of the Black Earth—works in which time becomes a mirror of human fears and hopes, and identity is seen as a fluid essence, in constant transformation.

Victor Sydorenko has exhibited at prestigious museums and galleries worldwide, and his works are found in both public and private collections, including at the National Art Museum of Ukraine (Kyiv), Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki), Yale University (USA) and many others.
