Three opera evenings in open air at DescOperă 2025 Festival in Moldova
Only a few hours are left till the opening of the eighth edition of the Classical Music Festival "DescOperă." During June 20-22, in the spectacular setting of the Orheiul Vechi (Old Orhei) Reserve in the village of Butuceni, the public will be invited to discover the universe of opera alongside artists from Moldova, Romania, Spain and Ukraine. This year's edition brings musical masterpieces to the forefront, as well as an absolute premiere on the festival’s stage: La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, presented by the Bucharest National Opera.
The festival will start on June 20 with the grandiose show AIDA by Giuseppe Verdi, staged by the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theater. In a spectacular natural setting at the foot of rocks in Butuceni, the Symphony Orchestra, Choir, Ballet Corps, and theater extras will perform under the direction of conductor Nicolae Dohotaru. The cast includes Rodica Picireanu, Simone Frediani, Taisia Caraman, Andrei Yvan Mîță (Romania), Petru Racoviță, Viorel Zgardan, Irina Poida, and Ruslan Pacatovici.
The artistic direction is by Rodica Picireanu, set design by Iurie Matei, choir master is Oleg Constantinov, and ballet master is Anastasia Homițcaia. The atmosphere will be further enhanced by the participation of students from the Academy Stefan cel Mare of the Interior Ministry (MAI) and the Equestrian Sports Association of Moldova.
On June 21, the audience will enjoy two exceptional moments: the symphonic concert "PASSIONE LATINA," performed by soloists from the Oviedo Opera (Spain) – Nerea González Otero, Serena Yolanda Pérez Garcia, Juan Noval Moro, and Abraham García González – accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra "Serghei Lunchevici," conducted by Rubén Díez.
The evening will continue with the impressive scenic cantata "CARMINA BURANA" by Carl Orff, performed by the National Chamber Choir and the Academic Choral Chapel "Doina" (conductor: Ilona Stepan), alongside soloists Tatiana Costiuc, Andrei Vozian (Ukraine) and Victor Yankovskyi (Ukraine), accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Mihail Agafita.
On June 22, for the first time on the festival stage, the opera "La Bohème" by Giacomo Puccini will be presented, performed by the Soloists, Chorus, and Orchestra of the National Opera Bucharest. The performance will be conducted by Daniel Jinga, and the cast includes Alin Stoica, Iulia Isaev, Ana Cernicova, Alexandru Constantin, Constantin Negru, Vlad Damian, Leonard Bernard, Dan Indricău, and Liviu Sandu.
Public access is allowed as of 19:00 and the performances start at 20:00.
