Moldovan historian, diplomat launched two volumes about Dimitrie Cantemir

Chisinau, 30 November /MOLDPRES/ - The volumes titled, Life and Destiny and, Filosoflarin Prensi. Renslerin Filosofu Dimitri Kantemir in Serenkâmi,” (in Turkish language) about the life and work of Moldova’s prince, statesman, man of letters Dimitrie Cantemir, signed by university professor Victor Tvircun, was launched at the headquarters of the National History Museum of Moldova today.         

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Victor Tvircun said the two volumes had 300 pages each and were published in a number of 300 copies.  

Attending the event, academician Andrei Esanu said that Victor Tvircun had tens of volumes and hundreds of studies published on this subject in Moldova, Romania, Turkey and other countries. ‘’He is the best knower of the life and scientific and political activity of Dimitrie Cantemir. Through these works, the knowledge of the cultural and scientific heritage of Dimitrie Cantemir is raised to another level,’’ Andrei Esanu stressed.  

Victor Tvircun was born in Chisinau on 18 October 1955. He graduated from the Faculty of History and Social Sciences of the Moldovan State University and subsequently got the academic title of doctor in historic sciences. During time, he held more positions at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, among which deputy head of the Europe and North America Directorate (1993-1995), adviser of Moldova’s Embassy in Turkey (1995-1998), adviser and charge d’affaires of Moldova’s Embassy in Hungary (1999-2001). In 2001, Tvircun was appointed Moldova’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Turkey and, by plurality of offices – Extraordinary Ambassador to Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Arab Republic of Egypt and Lebanon. In 2019, he was appointed as Ambassador to Qatar. During 2005-2008, Victor Tvircun acted as Education, Youth and Sport Minister. Presently, he works as professor at the Chisinau-based Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University.
