PHOTO // Students from Moldova win bronze medal at International English Language Olympiad

The national Olympic team of the Republic of Moldova won a bronze medal in the team event and three honorable mentions in the individual events at the International English Language Olympiad, held from September 6 to 12, 2026, in Suceava, Romania. A total of 136 students from 14 countries participated in the fourth edition of the competition.

In the team event, the Moldovan students placed third after creating and presenting a multimedia project based on the novel "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas.

The Republic of Moldova team consisted of four students: Alexandra Dumbrăveanu, a 12th-grade student at Mihai Eminescu Theoretical Lyceum in Bălți; Nicoleta Caraji, a 12th-grade student at Mihai Eminescu Theoretical Lyceum in Edineț; Gabriela Gaberi, an 11th-grade student at Prometeu-Prim Lyceum of Creativity and Innovation in Chișinău; and Andreea Darii, a 12th-grade student at Ion Creangă Theoretical Lyceum in Chișinău.

In the individual events, Nicoleta Caraji, Andreea Darii, and Gabriela Gaberi received honorable mentions.

The team was prepared by Viorica Lifari, a PhD in Philology, and Alina Legcobit, a university lecturer, both from Moldova State University.

The Ministry of Education and Research and the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment thanked the members of the Republican Olympic Council for English for their involvement in preparing the national team.

This year marked the fourth edition of the International English Language Olympiad, while the competition in Suceava brought together students from 14 countries.
