Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today attended a commemoration ceremony at the Embassy of the United States of in Chisinau, honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.

The PM recalled the impact the attacks had had on the entire world and noted that September 11 was one of those days people never forget.

“I believe that almost everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when they learned about the September 11, 2001 attacks. The shock of that day was felt throughout the world,” the prime minister said.

Vasile Tofan also recalled Arkady Zaltsman, an architect from Chisinau who contributed to the design of more important buildings in the capital and later continued his career in the United States. On September 11, 2001, he was in the South Tower of the World Trade Center complex and was among the victims of the attacks.

The prime minister said that he later had the opportunity to live and study in the United States, where he saw how deeply September 11 remained etched in American society’s memory.

“It is important to remember even today, especially in a world where attacks on civilians and terror are once again being used as instruments of war,” Vasile Tofan declared.

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks claimed almost 3,000 lives and remain one of the most tragic moments in the recent history of the United States.
