Moldova is hosting, for the first time, the José Antonio Viñas Caravan. The international event is organized under the auspices of the World Folklore Union.

In the context, Culture Minister Cristian Jardan held an official meeting with the caravan participants, which include approximately 30 delegates from nine countries: Ukraine, Austria, France, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Israel.

The delegations are made up of presidents of the federations that are members of the World Folklore Union, representatives of public authorities and renowned artists of international folklore.

The official thanked the delegations for their presence in Moldova and for their contribution to promoting authentic cultural values, emphasizing the importance of intercultural dialogue and international cooperation through art and tradition. The minister also presented the participants with certificates of appreciation, in recognition of their efforts to promote folklore and strengthen international cultural relations.

Moldova joined the World Folklore Union in November 2023. This year’s caravan is dedicated to the memory of Spanish artist José Antonio Viñas, a promoter of Spanish folklore and supporter of international cultural exchanges.

The caravan’s programme includes meetings with cultural figures, as well as the inauguration of the Representation Office of the Union in Moldova, at the Ungheni Palace of Culture.
