Moldovan government invests 25 million lei in tourism infrastructure in Valeni village

The tourism infrastructure in the Valeni village, a locality recognized internationally by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), will be developed and modernized through a project estimated at approximately 25 million lei. The investment is meant to capitalize on the tourism potential of Moldova’s southern region.

The project provides for the construction of the historic road "Calea Șiviței", about 2.2 kilometers long, which will facilitate tourists' access to the Lower Prut Biosphere Reserve. At the same time, a wooden bridge, part of the local tourist route, will be renovated.

In addition, a regional crafts camp will be set up in the village of Valeni, which will include accommodation facilities for about 40 people, as well as recreation and leisure areas for visitors.

According to Andrei Chistol, head of the Tourism Department at the Culture Ministry, the investments will contribute to harnessing the area's natural and cultural heritage, developing tourist routes and enhancing the region’s attractiveness for tourists.

“The project is financed by the Moldova’s government through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, with the contribution of local communities, and will be implemented by the South Regional Development Agency. Investments in tourism infrastructure mean opportunities for communities, local economic development and stronger promotion of Moldova as an authentic tourist destination,” noted Andrei Chistol.

The village of Valeni is considered one of the most attractive rural tourism destinations of Moldova. In 2023, the settlement was included in the Best Tourism Villages programme of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), being praised for its natural heritage, local traditions and initiatives for the development of rural tourism. Valeni is located near the Lower Prut Biosphere Reserve and Lake Beleu, an area known for its rich biodiversity and natural landscapes that attract numerous tourists every year.
