EU official in Chișinău: Civil society plays key role in strengthening democracy

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas held a meeting this morning with representatives of civil society from the Republic of Moldova.

The discussions focused on the role of civil society organizations in strengthening democracy, particularly through monitoring reforms, promoting transparency, and contributing to better alignment between public policies and citizens’ needs.

The European official reaffirmed the European Union’s support for the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing the continuation of reforms, the strengthening of democratic resilience, and the acceleration of economic development as key pillars of the country’s European path.

Kaja Kallas is paying an official visit to the Republic of Moldova on 7–8 May, with meetings scheduled with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, and other officials.
