Foreign Ministry condemns unauthorized overflight of national airspace by unmanned aircraft
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned the unauthorized overflight of the national airspace by an unmanned aircraft along the route of the localities Valea Perjei, Ceadîr-Lunga and Larga Nouă. The institution stressed that “this serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova is unacceptable”.
The authorities emphasize that such actions endanger the security of citizens and affect the safety of the airspace.
“These violations contribute to increasing security risks in the region. In this context, the MFA reiterates the need for strict respect for the sovereignty and airspace of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with the norms of international law,” the institution said.
An unmanned aircraft flew unauthorized in the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on the morning of May 8, after entering from the direction of Ukraine through Taraclia district. It disappeared from the radar near the locality of Larga Nouă.
In the context of the incident, the authorities decided to temporarily close the national airspace. Later, it was partially reopened.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the responsible institutions are cooperating with national authorities and specialists from neighboring states to ensure the security of citizens.
