BTA: Bulgarian Literature Has Become Increasingly Visible on International Stage - Deputy Culture Minister Stoyanov
Over the past decade, Bulgarian literature has become increasingly visible on the international stage, Deputy Culture Minister Victor Stoyanov said at a press conference in Athens. During the event, Bulgaria was named the guest of honour at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair that will be held in May.
“Prominent voices in contemporary Bulgarian prose are gaining global recognition. Bulgarian literature takes pride in Georgi Gospodinov’s 2023 International Booker Prize win. Just a few days ago, Rene Karabash was Booker-shortlisted,“ Stoyanov said.
“We have much to present at the Thessaloniki Book Fair. Our guest of honour programme is built on the idea that promoting authors is a shared effort,” he added.
“Greece is not only our close neighbour, but also our partner in the EU and NATO. Let this event—and the Thessaloniki Book Fair—send a clear message about our cultural ties and mark the beginning of a new era of stronger cooperation and the realization of our full potential,” the Deputy Minister noted.
The press conference was attended by Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni; Iasonas Fotilas, Deputy Minister of Culture, responsible for Contemporary Culture; and Nikos Bakounakis, Board President of the Hellenic Foundation for Books and Culture, among others. Representing Bulgaria were Deputy Minister Victor Stoyanov, Bulgarian Ambassador to Greece Valentin Poriazov, and Cultural Attache Mariana Petrova.
