Drone found in airspace of the Republic of Moldova
An unmanned aerial vehicle flew unauthorized through the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on the morning of May 8, after entering from the direction of Ukraine via Taraclia district.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the National Army’s Air Operations Service detected the drone at 09:35, when it entered the territory of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of the locality of Volinaea in Ukraine, through the village of Valea Perjei, Taraclia district.
At 09:49, the aircraft was also heard by the patrol of the Valea Perjei Border Police Sector. Data from the air surveillance systems show that the drone crossed the Ceadîr-Lunga area.
According to the Ministry of Defense, at 10:16 the aircraft disappeared from the radars near the locality of Larga Nouă.
In the context of the incident, the authorities decided to temporarily close the airspace of the Republic of Moldova between 09:55 and 10:08. Subsequently, air traffic was partially resumed, but as of 10:08 the airspace in the southern part of the country remains closed.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the responsible institutions are cooperating with national authorities and specialists from neighboring states to ensure the security of citizens.
The authorities announced that they will return with additional information regarding the incident.
