The first two courtyards modernized under the government programme, European Courtyard, today were inaugurated in the Chisinau municipality, on Dumitru Rascanu Street 33/4 and Gheorghe Madan Street 46/6. The projects mark the beginning of an initiative through which residential block courtyards are being transformed into safer, more modern and more comfortable spaces for people.

Under the two projects, access roads and sidewalks were rehabilitated, asphalt and paving were modernized, playgrounds and sports areas were arranged, new urban furniture was installed and recreation areas were created for residents.

The courtyard on Dumitru Rascanu Street 33/4 benefited from investments of over 4.6 million lei and includes two sports grounds, a children’s playground complex, a gazebo, benches and upgraded pedestrian infrastructure.

At the same time, in the courtyard on Gheorghe Madan Street 46/6, works worth over 4.2 million lei were carried out, including the arrangement of recreation areas, a sports ground and modernized infrastructure for residents.

The event was attended by Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolea, who discussed with residents the results of the works and the impact of the programme on urban communities.

“This programme means direct investments in people’s comfort and safety. The courtyards of apartment blocks must be vibrant, well-maintained and accessible spaces, where children play safely and people feel good at home. The first two courtyards inaugurated today represent the beginning of an extensive programme to modernize neighborhoods in the municipality of Chisinau,” said Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.

The European Courtyard programme provides for the modernization of 469 courtyards across Moldova, with estimated investments of about 1.95 billion lei. At present, 88 projects are under implementation and another 150 are in the process of project sketch design. Sixty-two courtyards out of them are already under construction and another 26 are to be launched in the immediate future.
