Ukraine winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2022
Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ - The trophy of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 has gone to Ukraine, represented by Kalush Orchestra, with the song Stefania. They ranked first, after getting 631 points on behalf of the jury and TV viewers
Ukraine was also the favourite of the betting agencies, being placed on the first position as early as before the first semifinal. The United Kingdom ranked second with 466 points and Spain – third, with 459 points. Germany is on the last position, with only 6 points on behalf of the audience.
Twenty five countries fought for the trophy, including Moldova, represented by the band Zdob şi Zdub & Advahov Brothers. They managed to rank seventh, with 253 points. The jury gave 14 points to Moldova in all: 2 points on behalf of the Netherlands, 6 ones on behalf of Greece, one point on behalf of Armenia and 5 points on behalf of Italy. Moldova’s representative in the contest got 239 points on behalf of the audience. For its part, Moldova gave 12 points to Ukraine, 12 points to the United Kingdom and 8 points to Sweden.
Moldova has been participating in Eurovision since 2005. In that year, Moldova represented by the Zdob şi Zdub band, ranked sixth. In 2017, the band SunStroke Project achieved the best result for Moldova, ranking third in the contest. The performance of the Zdob şi Zdub band and Advahov Brothers aroused a lot of appreciations, commentaries, distributions and positive reactions. The song, Trenuleţul (The Small Train) collected over 1.5 million visualizations on the Youtube channel of Eurovision and on the Facebook, the fragment of the song is in the column ‘’the most popular.’’
Moldova’s representatives, the band Zdob şi Zdub & Advahov Brothers, qualified to the final at the first semifinal of the contest, held on 10 May. Thus, the Moldovan artists entered the Eurovision Book of Records, being the only band in the history of the contest to reach the final three times in three different decades.
