Agri-food reforms and progress on agenda of Agriculture Minister’s visit to Brussels
The reforms implemented and progress achieved by the Republic of Moldova in the agri-food sector as part of preparations for accession to the European Union were presented during a visit to Brussels by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the program includes meetings with officials of the European Commission from the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), as well as with European commissioners and representatives of European institutions.
During the meetings, the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in preparing for European Union accession in the agri-food sector was presented, with a focus on the three negotiating chapters managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry: Chapter 11 – Agriculture and Rural Development, Chapter 12 – Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy, and Chapter 13 – Fisheries and Aquaculture. Discussions focused on the implementation of reforms in the agri-food sector, alignment of the legislative framework, and strengthening institutional capacities for the application of the European Union acquis.
At the same time, aspects related to technical assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova, implementation of the assumed reforms, development of administrative capacities, and the support needed to continue the European integration process and bring the agri-food sector closer to European Union standards and policies were addressed.
The visit to Brussels took place from 30 June to 1 July 2026. Ludmila Catlabuga was accompanied by Deputy Secretary General of the ministry Ina Butucel.
