Government Program: 85 young people to complete paid internships within public authorities
85 young women and men will complete paid internships within public authorities. The paid public service internship program, now in its sixth edition, is a tool through which the Government attracts, trains, and prepares a new generation of civil servants, capable of contributing to the modernization of public administration and the consolidation of a professional, efficient, and citizen-oriented public service.
Present at the event, Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu urged the selected young people to get actively involved in the work of the institutions where they will be interning: “The public service needs initiative and courage. It is important that you chose to take this step and come into public administration with new ideas, with energy, and with the desire to contribute to the common good. I am convinced that, in the years to come, some of you will take the oath of office in positions of great responsibility, and then you will be able to say that this is where your journey began in helping transform the Republic of Moldova into a better country for all citizens and for our children,” said Alexei Buzu.
In the summer 2026 edition, 261 applications were submitted for the 146 available internship positions. Out of these candidates, 180 were invited to an interview, and 84 were selected to begin their professional experience in public authorities. Since the launch of the paid public service internship program three years ago, young people’s interest in internships in public administration has grown steadily. In the five editions organized so far, 432 internship positions have been advertised, attracting 981 applicants. Of these, 838 reached the interview stage, 276 were selected, and 262 successfully completed the program.
The program is already delivering concrete results for strengthening the public service. So far, 50 former interns have begun their careers in public administration – 37 being hired directly following their internship, and another 13 through competitive selection. At the same time, 69 graduates of the program are part of the public service reserve corps, representing an important resource for state institutions. In parallel, this summer the European Union Internship Program is also taking place, under which 64 young people, selected from nearly 200 candidates, will work for two months in public authorities.
The program is supported by the European Union and Denmark through the project Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration. Participants in the internship programs will have the opportunity to learn first-hand how public administration works, to work alongside civil servants, and to take part in training sessions, seminars, and workshops dedicated to the work of state institutions, including in the context of the European integration process. Graduates who successfully complete the internship and receive a “very good” rating from their mentors may enter the public service without a competitive selection process and without a probation period, in accordance with the law. -
