Record on electricity exchange: 542 MWh traded in single day, equivalent to about 4% of consumption
The Day-Ahead Market (DAM), operated by OPEM, recorded on June 30 a record volume of traded electricity of 542 MWh, equivalent to approximately 4% of the Republic of Moldova’s average daily consumption. The average transaction price was 99 euros/MWh.
At the same time, on June 30, in 23 out of 24 hourly intervals transactions of at least 1 MWh were recorded, demonstrating the increasingly active participation of renewable energy producing companies as well as the functioning of market mechanisms. OPEM is the electricity market operator in the Republic of Moldova, and the Day-Ahead Market was launched in December 2025, offering participants a transparent and competitive mechanism for trading electricity for the following day.
The electricity market consists of the bilateral contracts market and the organized power markets, namely the day-ahead market (DAM), the intraday market (IDM), the balancing electricity market and the ancillary services market.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy, in the Republic of Moldova 96 companies hold licenses to supply electricity, while on the competitive/unregulated market only three suppliers are currently active, with market shares of 1.52%, 0.14% and 0.34% respectively.
The share of suppliers on the unregulated electricity market is expected to increase significantly.
