Airline launches first and only direct flight from Moldova to Bulgaria

An airline is launching the first and only direct flight from Moldova to Bulgaria. Starting from 26 October 2025, passengers of Eugen Doga International Airport will have the opportunity to fly directly to the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia.

Flights will operate four times a week: every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The spokesperson of Eugen Doga International Airport, Natalia Cojocaru, said that the announcement of the direct flight to Sofia marks another step in diversifying the network of routes. 'This new air connection facilitates direct travel between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria, fostering economic exchanges, tourism and bilateral cooperation. We aim to provide passengers with more accessible travel options and to strengthen the ties between the Republic of Moldova and European capitals,' Natalia Cojocaru said.

'We want more travelers from Moldova to have access to smart and efficient flight options, and this new route is a clear example of our direction. We focus on continuously improving the flight experience and expanding our route portfolio. This includes both onboard comfort and efficient direct flights between major European cities,' said Anastasia Novak, corporate communication manager of the airline Wizz Air.

The city of Sofia perfectly combines historical landmarks, modern restaurants, a vibrant cultural scene, and easy access to Rila or Pirin mountains - ideal for hiking, winter sports, or nature getaways. In summer, Bulgaria remains one of the most loved vacation destinations for Moldovans - with Black Sea resorts like Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Albena or Golden Sands, known for hospitality, spectacular landscapes and affordable prices.

Eugen Doga International Airport returned to state management in the spring of 2023. Authorities previously announced the modernization of airport infrastructure and the attraction of investments to increase capacity and service quality, under a state-managed, transparent regime oriented towards public interest.

Currently, it ranks among the top-performing airports in Europe, in the category of 1-10 million passengers per year. The growth is supported by the expansion of the route network and the number of airlines, which increased from 20 in 2022 to 33 by 2024.
