MAIA to assess impact of frosts, consult farmers
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) will analyze the impact of frosts in the agricultural sector and provide consultancy to farmers. Over the past three years, state support for agriculture has consistently increased, reaching over 6 billion lei.
MAIA has scheduled two meetings for April 17. One meeting will include representatives from regional agricultural departments. Representatives from sector-specific associations will be invited to the second meeting.
The Ministry states that it constantly identifies new support opportunities for farmers. Through the Budget Plus program, the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Environment Development has been supplemented with 200 million lei, providing additional financial support to farmers.
At the same time, the Economic Growth Plan funded by the European Union allocates 300 million euros for investments in agriculture, confirming the priority the state gives to the agricultural sector, small farms and farmers across the country.
“Through subordinate institutions, AIPA and ADMA, subsidies and advantageous conditions for purchasing agricultural machinery are available. The state supports investments in anti-frost systems, subsidized at 50% of the eligible investment value through AIPA. Additionally, we encourage farmers to insure their crops. The state subsidizes up to 70% of the insurance premium cost. In 2024, 502 applications were submitted, and through subsidy mechanisms, AIPA has already paid over 61 million lei from the state budget for covering insurance premiums,” the Ministry of Agriculture said.
With the government's financial assistance, farmers have expanded the areas of multiyear plantations protected by anti-rain and anti-hail equipment to 961 hectares. Also with government support, in the past three years, 402 farms have been renovated and modernized, and since 2021, subsidies have been granted per animal and per kilogram of product for the first time.
