Government responds to Moldova Fruct's request
Government has issued an official response to the request of Moldova Fruct Association on financial support for agricultural producers affected by spring frosts this year. Authorities emphasize that any governmental intervention will be based on a thorough evaluation of the situation on the ground.
"We need clear data from the field. Currently, assessing the damage caused by the spring frosts is underway. The evaluation is carried out by local commissions within the district agricultural departments, at the request of the farmers,” Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă said.
According to him, the central authorities are awaiting reports from the agricultural departments under the district councils.
"When we receive all the compiled figures at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, we will decide on the necessary measures,” added Daniel Vodă.
Moldova Fruct Association, which represents the interests of over 180 fruit producers and exporters in the Republic of Moldova has requested financial support from the state due to significant losses registered in orchards as a result of sub-zero temperatures in April and May. The phenomenon particularly affected orchard crops, endangering the harvest of apples, plums, cherries and other fruits intended for both domestic markets and export.
The Association has requested that the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry declare a national spring agricultural calamity by 31 May 2025.
The Government reiterates its commitment to support the agricultural sector, yet mentions that any intervention decision will be made responsibly, based on verified and consolidated data at the national level.
