Speaker confirms nomination of Oleg Serebrian and Vladislav Kulminski as Ambassadors of Moldova
Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian, responsible for the Reintegration, will be proposed for the position of ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Turkey, and Vladislav Kulminski for the position of ambassador to the United States of America. Speaker Igor Grosu made the statement for Jurnal TV.
The Speaker drew the public's attention to the fact that those who disclosed the information on social media today were 'quick to make revelations'. Grosu insisted on following the legal procedure, including approving the agenda of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
At the same time, the Speaker denied the information released to the public that Victor Chirilă, the current ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania could take over the portfolio of Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Reintegration. Grosu emphasized that Victor Chirilă is a very good diplomat, 'doing his job well'.
Today, information surfaced on social media stating that Oleg Serebrian will be appointed ambassador to Turkey and Vladislav Kulminski to the USA. Those who shared the information also published a fragment from the agenda, at that time unapproved, of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The Commission's opinion will be made public on 30 May.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a comment today, clarifying that the ambassador appointment process follows the steps provided by law: the proposal comes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is reviewed by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the final decision is made by presidential decree.
'All candidates are fairly evaluated based on merit and experience. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its commitment to transparency and adherence to legal procedures. In this context, it is essential that the entire process unfolds without influences and without hasty conclusions, to protect institutional integrity and public confidence,' the MAE's comment states.
Oleg Serebrian is a career diplomat. From 2010 to 2015, he was the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France, and later, from 2015 to 2022, he held the same position in Germany. Since 2022, Serebrian has held the position of Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Reintegration.
Vladislav Kulminski is an expert in political analysis, strategic planning, and conflict resolution. Between August and November 2021, he served as Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova, in Gavrilița Government.
On May 12, in an interview with the Moldovan press, President Maia Sandu confirmed that new ambassadors would be appointed in several countries.
