Moldova to be able to develop energy interconnections with EU more quickly: government approves project

Moldova will be able to develop energy interconnections with the European Union more rapidly, reduce administrative bottlenecks for strategic projects and strengthen its energy security. This will be possible based on legislative amendments approved by the government today.

According to the Energy Ministry, one of the most important amendments concerns the introduction of a priority regime for energy projects of common and mutual interest, developed together with European Union member states and states of the Energy Community. These projects will benefit from faster authorization procedures and more efficient institutional coordination.

To reduce bureaucracy and accelerate investments, the approved amendments introduce coordinated authorization mechanisms, clear deadlines for issuing permits and the designation of a single point of contact that will facilitate interaction between investors and public authorities.

At the same time, the amendments clarify the application of the current legal framework for energy projects declared to be of public utility and national interest. The provisions do not introduce new procedures for projects already under implementation, but create clearer conditions for the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects, in compliance with the legal framework.

At the government meeting, Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu said that the adoption of the draft law would ensure the harmonization of the national regulatory framework with European Union’s legislation and would facilitate the implementation of strategic energy infrastructure projects, contributing to the strengthening of Moldova’s energy security.

The amendments also provide for enhanced standards of transparency and public consultation, so that citizens and all stakeholders are informed and involved from the early stages of developing strategic energy projects.

The Energy Ministry emphasized that the new provisions create clearer and more efficient conditions for the development of modern cross-border energy infrastructure, including electricity interconnection lines, smart grids and other strategic projects that contribute to enhancing the independence and resilience of the national energy system.
