Prime Minister on tax policy draft: We will consider every suggestion, but direction will not change. We must be efficient
The Republic of Moldova needs a simpler, more stable and more competitive tax system that stimulates investment, encourages business development and creates better-paid jobs here at home. That is why the Government has launched the tax reform, which is an instrument for making the economy more efficient. The position was expressed by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, who emphasized that dialogue on tax policy will continue and that the authorities will consider every suggestion and come up with best solutions.
He said that the initiated tax reform is a complex one and it is natural for there to be discussions on all its aspects.
“We are continuing consultations on the tax reform. It is one of the most important economic reforms we are preparing. In all countries of the world it is a major issue and it is also linked to making the public system more efficient, reducing expenditures and the new wage law that we are preparing. It is also linked to our relations with the International Monetary Fund, with the rating agencies, the cost of money, those interest rates we talk about, and all investors in the Republic of Moldova. It is a complex reform and it is natural to have debates and differing views. Those who are calling us to take active and even radical steps, this is exactly what we are doing. This is our instrument for making the economy of the Republic of Moldova more efficient,” said Alexandru Munteanu at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.
The Prime Minister stressed that the authorities will examine all suggestions submitted during the public consultation stage in order to identify the most appropriate solutions.
“We will carefully analyze every suggestion and we will continue the dialogue. But I want it to be very clear: the direction of the reform will not change. We must be efficient and we will continue in this direction. The Republic of Moldova needs a simpler, more stable and more competitive tax system. A system that stimulates investment, encourages business development and creates better-paid jobs here in our country, in the Republic of Moldova,” Alexandru Munteanu underlined.
The draft tax policy for 2027 was presented for public consultation on June 11. The authorities announced that the objective of the new tax policy is for every working citizen to earn more and for every entrepreneur to be able to invest more in the country’s economic development.
