Vehicles equipped with eCall system to automatically dial 112 in case of serious road accidents in Moldova

The Government of the Republic of Moldova
gov.md

Vehicles equipped with the eCall system will automatically dial the single European emergency number 112, without any intervention from the driver or passengers, in case of a serious road accident. The system is connected to the vehicle’s onboard sensors, which detect the impact and trigger the call. The call can also be initiated manually, by pressing a button installed on the vehicle’s dashboard.

The government today approved the necessary amendments for modernizing the 112 Service and enhancing the efficiency of emergency calls.

Once activated, the system will transmit to the 112 Service a minimum set of data, including information that allows the vehicle to be located and identified. This data will be forwarded to the specialized emergency services to organize the response.

The calls made through the eCall system will be received, processed and managed with the same promptness and priority as any other call made to the 112 single emergency number.

Vehicles will be equipped by the manufacturers, who will be required to inform consumers about the system’s functionality, compatibility and any possible limitations.

The aim of the project is to reduce response times in the event of road accidents and to improve the efficiency of communication between the 112 Service, ambulance, police and rescue services. The law is set to enter into force on May 13, 2027.
