Moldovan authorities propose that Tiraspol holds meeting in 1+1 format

The Moldovan authorities have proposed to Tiraspol the organization of a meeting in the 1+1 format in late July, 2026. During this meeting, the sides are to discuss the Convergence Fund. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri today made statements to this effect after the government meeting.

The official stressed that the 1+1 communication format was the only functional one under the current conditions.

“Chisinau has proposed a new meeting at the end of this July. We are expecting the delegation from Tiraspol in Chisinau. We intend to discuss the Convergence Fund and how it will operate. We are in the process of developing the mechanism. In the near future, we will present a timetable of actions that will stem from this mechanism. In the responses received from Tiraspol, we took note of the fact that the proposals to discuss this subject did not generate much enthusiasm. Still, for us it is important that there is increasing discussion about the Convergence Fund in the eastern districts. Thus, regardless of propaganda and falsehoods, we have managed to respond to the expectations of the citizens from the left bank of Dniester and we will do everything possible for the reintegration process and the implementation of the Fund to achieve their goal,” said Valeriu Chiveri.

The deputy PM for reintegration also referred to the economic situation in the region.

“In Tiraspol, a predictable constant persists: whatever happens in the region, the responsibility is placed on Chisinau. Chisinau is blamed for the economic situation, for pension and salary arrears, for difficulties in ensuring the region’s gas supply. You need a special talent to benefit from free energy resources and still bring the region’s economy into such a precarious situation. And at the same time, to explain this situation through factors outside the eastern districts. The citizens of the region are watching this situation and are asking questions about how they things got to be managed like this, so that the economic situation is such precarious and who is responsible for this,” emphasized Valeriu Chiveri.

The last meeting in the 1+1 format took place on April 16, this year. The format involves direct talks between the chief negotiators from Chisinau and Tiraspol. It aims at resolving current problems, including social, economic and educational aspects.
