Moldovan PM meets members of Board of Directors of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
The support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the projects on development of Moldova and the priorities of cooperation for the coming years have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the members of the EBRD Board of Directors. The sides reviewed the results of the partnership to date and the areas in which cooperation will continue to be strengthened.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that the EBRD was one of the most important development partners of Moldova, playing an essential role in supporting reforms, modernizing the economy and advancing the country's European path.
“The partnership with the EBRD means concrete investments in infrastructure, energy security, economic competitiveness and better services for citizens. We continue to count on the Bank’s support for the implementation of our ambitious reforms’ agenda, the Growth Plan and for accelerating Moldova’s integration into the European Union,” said the prime minister.
The discussions focused on the government’s main priorities: implementing the Reforms’ Agenda and the Growth Plan supported by the European Union, strengthening energy security, modernizing agriculture, developing infrastructure, improving fiscal policies and stimulating private investments.
During the meeting, the parties also examined opportunities for attracting investment following the EU-Moldova Investment Conference, including by promoting the country as a safe and predictable destination for the business environment. The sides also discussed the support which the EBRD can provide in the process of reforming and modernizing state-owned enterprises, as well as in developing cross-border projects that can contribute both to the reconstruction of Ukraine and to the economic development of the entire region.
The EBRD representatives praised the close cooperation with the authorities of Moldova and the progress made in the implementation of joint projects, noting that this partnership creates the conditions for expanding the Bank’s investments in the country. At the same time, the members of the Board of Directors reaffirmed the EBRD’s readiness to adapt its support to the current priorities of Moldova, particularly in the context of the European integration process.
At present, the EBRD is financing 75 major projects in Moldova in such areas as road and rail infrastructure, energy interconnection and efficiency, agricultural modernization, waste management and private sector development. Since the start of its activity in Moldova in 1992, the EBRD has invested over 3.1 billion euros in about 200 projects.
