Moldovan parliament changes rules of operation of Free Economic Zones
The storage and production regimes in the Free Economic Zones (FEZ) will be delineated, and the types of activities permitted for residents registered before and after the implementation of the Customs Code will be differentiated. The concerned legislative changes were approved by 57 MPs in the first reading.
At the same time, a common regime for scheduled inspections is introduced to ensure better coordination between supervisory authorities.
The authors say that the changes will contribute to a more coherent legislative framework, more efficient administration and a higher level of transparency in managing investment platforms.
Presently, six free economic zones are active in Moldova. At the beginning of this year, they had a cumulative 256 residents, total investments of over 618.5 million dollars and over 14,000 jobs. At the same time, contributions to the national public budget amounted to about 1.162 billion lei.
