President of Romanian Senate about establishment of trilateral Chamber of Commerce: Romania, Moldova and Ukraine - pillars on NATO’s Eastern Flank
President of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudean says that Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are important pillars on NATO’s Eastern Flank, and the establishment of a joint Chamber of Commerce will represent an essential institutional platform for the development of economic partnerships and for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
According to Abrudean, investments in infrastructure, defense and strategic partnerships, especially with the United States of America, are vital for strengthening regional security and stability. The Romanian official emphasized that strong borders mean not only protecting territory and sovereignty, but also having solid economic partnerships between the states in the region.
In this context, Abrudean stated that the new Trilateral Chamber of Commerce Romania–Republic of Moldova–Ukraine will function as a joint institutional platform through which companies from the three countries, as well as from other European Union member states, will be able to establish public–private partnerships and consortia for cross-border projects. These projects will target the reconstruction of infrastructure, the economy and Ukrainian communities affected by the war.
“Romania can and must be a logistics hub for the reconstruction of Ukraine once the war ends, a moment so eagerly awaited by all of us. On NATO’s Eastern Flank, Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are key pillars, and investments in infrastructure, defense and strategic partnerships, especially with the USA, are essential,” said the President of the Romanian Senate.
The initiative to create the Trilateral Chamber of Commerce belongs to the Institute for Project Development and Expertise in the Republic of Moldova and is supported by more than 250 institutions and organizations from Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The project has been included in the strategic document of the Alliance of Members of the European Parliament from Eastern Europe for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
The topic was discussed in Chișinău on January 20, during the conference Partnership for Reconstruction: Establishment of the Trilateral Chamber of Commerce Romania–Ukraine–Republic of Moldova. In the context of the war in Ukraine, participants underlined that the reconstruction process will be long-term and will require regional coordination, clear rules and functional institutions.
The Trilateral Chamber of Commerce is seen as a key instrument that can turn political vision into concrete economic projects and can contribute to the stability and prosperity of the region.
