Around 500 freelancers registered in less than a month after new tax regime implemented
A number of 500 citizens have chosen to work legally, simply and with low taxes, using the new freelancer regime. They have registered their activity at the Public Services Agency (ASP) or in the EVO app. This figure was reached in less than a month after the new tax regime came into force, effective from 1 January 2026.
“The freelancer community is growing rapidly: 500 people in less than a month. A clear sign that the initiative is supported and that independent work is becoming a safe choice,” the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization announced today.
Starting 1 January 2026, a new tax regime dedicated to the independent economic activity of individuals, known as the Freelancer Law, has entered into force. For the first time, freelancers have a separate legal framework, simplified and adapted to the realities of independent work, without unnecessary trips and without complicated bureaucracy. They will be able to operate officially, without having to open a company or hire an accountant, and at the same time they will benefit from social and medical insurance, paying a single tax of 15 percent on their declared income.
Any citizen of the Republic of Moldova who carries out independent economic activities in the field of service provision, such as IT, design, photography, creative work, consulting, architecture, handicrafts, cleaning services and other activities expressly provided by law can become a freelancer.
Registering independent activity is free and simple – online, via the Public Services Agency, the public services portal or the EVO app.
