Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with Secretary General of Council of Europe

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting  with Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Alain Berset. The Moldovan diplomacy head reiterated Moldova’s firm commitment to deepening cooperation and consistently promoting the organization’s fundamental values – democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights.

An important topic of the meeting was the exercise by Moldova of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. In the context, the deputy PM highlighted the importance of this presidency, as well as the organization, in Chisinau, of the Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers.

“The Council of Europe stays an essential partner for Moldova in strengthening the rule of law and democratic institutions. By exercising the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, Moldova contributes to defining the priorities of the Council of Europe and asserts its commitment to the organization’s fundamental values,” said Mihai Popsoi.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset reaffirmed the organization’s firm support for Moldova and praised the steady cooperation with the Moldovan authorities, in a regional context marked by multiple challenges.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi on January 26-28 is taking part in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The visit’s agenda includes more meetings with European officials.
