Vulcănești bypass road has become operational and is open to traffic starting Thursday, December 18. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea stated that the modernization of this section of the M3 Chisinau-Comrat-Giurgiulesti-Romania border road will ensure a fast and safe connection between Chisinau and Giurgiulesti and will improve the southern region's connectivity to the European transport network.

“For the city's residents, this means more safety and comfort on the streets, less noise and pollution due to the redirection of heavy transport outside the locality, and more protection for urban infrastructure from wear and tear caused by heavy traffic,” emphasized Vladimir Bolea at the road commissioning ceremony.

The newly constructed sector is 8.58 km long and includes both the reconstruction of an existing sector and the construction of an entirely new route. The project also included the construction of field access roads and the arrangement of the intersection with road G142 Vulcanesti-Etulia, the construction of a bridge and a passage for agricultural equipment, as well as the implementation of modern drainage and road safety systems.

The works were financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and completed two months ahead of the contractual deadline.

The M3 road is the shortest and most important connection between Chisinau and Giurgiulesti, providing access to the Danube and the Black Sea. Additionally, the M3 corridor is an integral part of the European corridor E577 Poltava-Kirovograd-Chisinau-Giurgiulesti-Galati-Slobozia.

The town of Vulcanesti is located 200 km from Chisinau, 7 km from the Ukrainian border, and 35 km from the Romanian border, a position that gives it strategic importance in the south of the Republic of Moldova.
