The Republic of Moldova will take part in the ninth edition of China International Import Expo, one of the most important international platforms dedicated to trade and imports in China. The announcement was made today by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, who held a series of meetings in Shanghai with representatives of municipal authorities, the business community and the technology sector, focused on economic cooperation and the promotion of Moldova’s export opportunities on the Chinese market.
During the meeting with the Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Lu Shan, responsible for foreign relations and international trade, the parties discussed possibilities for expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism and investment. They highlighted Shanghai’s role as a major economic center and discussed the opportunities offered by the city’s economic and exhibition platforms for developing contacts between institutions, businesspeople, tourism operators and cultural organizations from the Republic of Moldova and China. At the same time, Vice Mayor Lu Shan praised the quality of Moldovan wines and noted the potential for expanding their presence on the Chinese market, including through diversifying the range of available products.
Discussions with the head of the Shanghai International Import Expo Bureau, Wu Zhengping, focused on opportunities to promote Moldovan products on the Chinese market through the China International Import Expo (CIIE) platform, one of the most important international exhibitions dedicated to trade and imports in China. The Chinese side emphasized the international relevance of the expo, which, in its first eight editions, brought together representatives from over 180 countries and approximately 27,000 companies.
The Moldovan foreign minister expressed interest in making more active use of this platform to promote Moldovan wines and agri-food products under the "Made in Moldova" brand, as well as to develop direct contacts with Chinese importers.
“We discussed the promotion of Moldovan products on the Shanghai market and new opportunities for our exporters. We agreed that this year the Republic of Moldova will participate in the ninth edition of the China International Import Expo, one of the most important international exhibitions dedicated to trade and imports in China, which will take place in November 2026,” said Mihai Popșoi.
The official also visited AllyNav, a national leader in smart agriculture, with over a decade of experience in developing autonomous driving systems for agricultural machinery. Discussions focused on China’s experience in the digitalization of agriculture, the use of modern technologies to increase agricultural efficiency, and opportunities for cooperation in innovation and modernization of the agricultural sector.
In talks with representatives of Shanghai Hemi, a company specializing in modern agricultural technologies and digital trade, the parties explored opportunities to promote Moldovan agri-food products on Chinese online trading platforms. Founded in 2017, the company cooperates with agricultural producers from over 150 countries, importing agricultural products that are later sold through digital platforms and major commercial networks, hotels and educational institutions in China.
The interlocutors discussed the possibility of including Moldovan products, especially agri-food goods, in the company’s portfolio and granting them access to its extensive distribution networks on the Chinese market.
Popșoi is paying an official visit to the People’s Republic of China from May 21–25 this year, at the invitation of his counterpart, Wang Yi. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral dialogue and promote economic, trade, investment, cultural, educational and tourism cooperation between the two states. The last visit of a Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs to the People’s Republic of China took place in 2018.
