State to borrow 150 million euros from EBRD for key road rehabilitation
The Republic of Moldova will negotiate with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for an additional loan of 150 million euros, aimed at the rehabilitation of strategically important roads.
The Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee today approved the advisory opinion for the negotiation and signing of the amendment to the Loan Agreement related to the Road Rehabilitation Project V in Moldova.
According to authorities, the additional funds will be allocated for the modernization of two major road infrastructure sectors: the second sector of the Chisinau Ring Road (M2), with a length of 9.4 kilometers, which will be expanded to four lanes, and the M1 road, which connects the border with Romania (Leușeni), Chișinău, Dubăsari, and the border with Ukraine, over a distance of 84 kilometers.
The government emphasizes that supplementing the loan is necessary to ensure the completion of the works according to European standards, considering the increase in material and labor costs by up to 39% during the period 2021–2025, as a result of economic crises.
The roads have recently been included in the EU Regulation 2024/1679 regarding the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).
After the amendment to the Agreement with the EBRD is signed, the document will be ratified by the Parliament.
