One-off childbirth allowance to be increased from 1 January 2026

The one-off childbirth allowance will increase starting 1 January 2026. It will reach 21,886 lei, which is 536 lei more compared to the current level of 21,350 lei. The decision providing for this change was approved today by the Government.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru stated that the one-off birth allowance has doubled since 2021 to the present.

“We have good news for families planning to have a child. The one-off allowance will increase and will amount to 21,886 lei in the year 2026. I want to mention that since 2021, this one-off allowance has doubled and we aim to adjust it every year to provide the necessary support for families having a child,” stated Natalia Plugaru during the Government meeting.

According to estimates by the National Social Insurance House, in 2026, about 36,400 children will benefit from the one-off birth allowance, and financial resources amounting to about 802,448.5 thousand lei will be needed, resources planned in the State Budget Law project for 2026.
