President of Romania at Helsinki Meeting: We will continue to support Moldova

Russia's actions pose a major threat to the region, and the Republic of Moldova will continue to enjoy the support of Western partners because its security contributes to Europe's security. President of Romania Nicușor Dan made the statements at Helsinki Meeting.

Discussions focused on strengthening defense capabilities, protecting citizens, and deterring any form of aggression through close coordination between the European Union and NATO.

'The Helsinki Meeting highlighted the central role of the Eastern Flank for European security,' the cited source mentioned.

During the event, it was emphasized that European defense initiatives are complementary to the efforts of the North Atlantic Alliance, including those carried out in the Bucharest 9 format, aiming to ensure a coherent and well-integrated Eastern Flank.

Romania's president also highlighted the strategic importance of the Black Sea region, mentioning that Romania is proposing to host the Maritime Security Hub as part of the European Union's Strategy for this region. The initiative aims to enhance cooperation and responsiveness to security challenges.

Furthermore, the necessity of developing military mobility and connectivity on the North-South axis was emphasized, as well as the importance of connections with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova for strengthening regional defense.

'We will continue to support the Republic of Moldova because its security directly contributes to our security,' declared Romania's president, reaffirming Bucharest's firm commitment to regional stability and security.

Nicușor Dan attended the Eastern Flank Summit of EU States on 16 December.

The Eastern Flank Summit of EU States took place at the initiative of the Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, who invited leaders of seven EU member states to participate in the meeting dedicated to threats to European security and defense preparedness, particularly at the European Union's eastern border. The event was attended by Prime Ministers Ulf Kristersson (Sweden), Kristen Michal (Estonia), Evika Siliņa (Latvia), Donald Tusk (Poland), and Rossen Jeliazkov (Bulgaria), as well as Presidents Nicușor Dan (Romania) and Gitanas Nausėda (Lithuania).

The Eastern Flank Summit of EU States in Helsinki took place ahead of the European Council in Brussels, scheduled for December 18-19.
