Average monthly salary forecast for 2026 is 17,400 lei

Average monthly salary forecast for 2026 is 17,400 lei, up by 8.07 percent compared to 2025, when the average salary was 16,100 lei. This is stipulated in a draft approved today by the government.

"This indicator's establishment is necessary to ensure the competitiveness of the private sector in terms of salary offers and employee motivation," Minister of Labor and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru said.

The average monthly salary is used to determine the calculation base cap for social insurance benefits and the insured monthly income of employees residing in IT parks, as well as for calculating the mandatory state social insurance contributions from aid provided by unions and employers from amounts exceeding the average monthly salary for the economy.

Thus, adjusting the amount of the average salary is strictly technical, aimed at updating the indicators used in the related legislation without necessitating the allocation of additional financial resources to implement the project's provisions.
